SpongeBob Cricut Card & Quick Candy Bag

Hey!! Won't you come see me at my Main Site at www.joyslife.com?

"The Sponge"

Well, if being sick actually meant you got a day off from Mom duties...it would probably also mean I got an actual paycheck. Today, neither are true. I am sick and gross and you could probably catch my cold-turning-into-sinus-infection just from reading this post. Wait!!! Don't leave!!! That part was an exaggeration. Plus, I'm sure with all the Lysol DH has sprayed you could lick my keyboard and be just fine. Ugh...that was grosser than the last thing I said.

Anyway, DS#2 had a b'day party to go to today. I put off doing anything for it until the last seconds because I felt so bad. Though I felt compelled to make a cute card for DS's friend. I decided to give "The Sponge" another try. Although this card looks unfinished..'cause I didn't feel good enough to do any more than I did...I still think I'm getting better at making Bob. THIS TIME I read the front of the Cricut booklet. You know what? There's some useful information in there about how to do layers. Who knew?! LOL

1st - do that main cut in black...THEN do the other cuts. OOOOHHHH!!!

You know, it makes me wonder what I might learn if I read other directions. Hmmm...oh well. LOL

Here's the last Spongebob Card I made. I'm still having trouble figuring out how to make his mouth look normal. I left some of those cuts out. Oh, I used the Spongebob Cricut cartridge for this AND the punch I used is EK Swiss Cheese. Then I put vellum on the back of the bubbles so they'd be...more bubble like. I heart vellum. I just rarely use it.

Previous Spongebob Card

Not to leave out my newest love...Stampin' Up Cello bags filled with candy and topped with cardstock. LOVE THAT. Here's the one I made today. Yes, I washed my hands first!! I'm not THAT nasty. Just a little nasty. Kiddding. That candy never touched my hands...went from one bag to the other ...PROMISE!!

What's cool about this is that you don't need a Cricut to make it.

Here's how you do it:

  • Get a bag and fill it with candy

  • Fold cardstock in half and staple

  • Cover stapled areas with paper and glue/tape down

  • Punch out a shape for some pizazz

  • Stamp shape with sentiment or picture

Now, for these I did use the Stampin' Up Cello bags in medium and filled them with sour Skittles. I used my new Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher to staple it closed, but I've used a regular stapler every time previously. I just got that Tiny Attacher and just HAD to use it for something. I punched the shapes out with those Marvy scalloped squares you see in the background and popped things a bit with Stampin' Up dimensionals (pop dots). I used Stampin' Up classic green galore stamp pad for the image and sentiment. The little present came from Stampin' Up Sock Monkey and the sentiment came from SU Fundamental Phrases.

Done and Done.

It's not my best bag...but hey...it was not bad for day four of being a human petri dish.

I'm off to keep Puffs Plus and Tylenol Severe Cold in business and chill out watching Stranger with my Face on Lifetime with DD.

Happy...cough, cough, cough...sniff...excuse me...Crafting!

Oh My Crafts Contest!!

Oh My Crafts is doing a contest where you post a craft you made using supplies you bought from them. So fun!

I was just recently singing their praises because I bought my Cricut Jukebox from them and I LOOOOVEE it!! Not only did I get a great deal on it, but it totally saved me last week when I was making an ABC book for my nephew's b'day. That sweetie pie just turned 2 on Saturday. So cute.

Here are 3 of the pages I made. You'll have to wait a bit for me to post all 26!! :)

The Jukebox saved me here because I had to change carts 3 times on this letter:

Iguana (Lizard) is from Life Is a Beach cart

Lettering is from Sesame Street Font cart

The Branch is from Home Decor Solutions cart.

I had to change cartridges 3 times on the J:

Jellyfish is from the Spongebob cart. (love this cart)

The water topper is from the Life's a Beach cart.

The letter "J" is from Life's a Beach.

The spelling of the word is from Sesame Street Font.

I had to change cartridges 3 times on the X. Yes, an X-ray fish IS a real fish!! LOL:

Fish is from the Spongebob cart. (love this cart)

Bones are from Paper Doll Dress Up.

The water topper is from Spongebob.

The lettering is from Sesame Street Font.

The Jukebox I bought from Oh My Crafts kept me from having to turn my Cricut off and on while I exchanged the many Cricut cartridges I used. Whew. Believe me, there were a bunch of different carts used on all 26 pages. I can't imagine how much time it would have taken me if I hadn't had that handy little Jukebox. Here's what it looks like:

See, it holds all the cartridges so you just push a button and switch back and forth. Awesome!!

I actually used so many different carts, that I need to add another Jukebox. Totally doable because you can link them together. Sweet!

Oh My Crafts...here I come...again!!

How To Label Cricut Booklets

joyslife

Labeling your booklets is an easy way to quickly decipher your overlays.

Every time I buy a new cartridge, I must label my booklet before using it. I'm getting pretty obsessive about it. However, I find that it makes finding everything a breeze. Sometimes it's really hard to tell what is being shown on the buttons of those overlays. You'll especially appreciate having things labeled if you have a font cartridge because they include letters AND numbers. You'll think everything is easy when it's numbers, but those letters are all over the place. Here's an example using the Sesame Street Font Cartridge.

Here's How I Label my Cricut Booklets:

I actually use a Sharpie marker to write my handy guide on the top left hand corner of each page.

The "R" stands for the ROW on the overlay where the item is found.

There are 5 ROWS on every overlay. So R2 = ROW 2.

There are 10 BUTTONS in every ROW.

So R2 - 6 = ROW 2 BUTTON 6. Meaning, go down to Row 2 and over 6 buttons and in this case you will find Cookie Monster with the letter Y and all the offerings on that page in the booklet.

Here's Where Labeling Comes in Really Handy:

Seem like "I" should naturally follow "J", but it's a QWERTY overlay, so "I" is actually located at R2-8 (Row 2 Button 8 ) and "J" is located at R3-7 (Row 3 Button 7).

You might not feel like you need to do all this labeling, but it's helped me a TON!!

I hope this helps you!! Happy Crafting!!
